Weather Contracts Tutorial
Weather Measurements

WeatherBill sells contracts based on weather data observed at over 450 stations located across the US and Canada, including in most major cities.

Most of the stations that provide data to WeatherBill are at airports, but some are located at parks, university campuses, or military bases.

If you can't find your city on our list of stations, you can enter your Postal/ZIP code and let us find the station nearest to you. Payouts for the WeatherBill contracts that you purchase will be calculated from data observed at the station you choose when getting a quote. Since the weather station in your city may still be a fair distance from your business, the weather that you experience may be different than that which is observed at the weather station.

There are five weather measurements on which you can base the weather index of a contract. All measurements are taken over the twenty four hour period starting at midnight of each day at the chosen weather station.

  • Precipitation
  • Minimum temperature
  • Maximum temperature
  • Average temperature: defined as the midpoint between the minimum and maximum temperatures for the day.
  • Snowfall
