Rangeland Drought Protection pays incrementally based on the location, dates and terms you set. The Start Coverage Level is the amount of rain below which the coverage starts payment. The Max Coverage Amount is the dollar amount per acre that will be paid if the total rainfall during the coverage period is either 0% of normal, or below the specified Max Coverage Level. Between the Start Coverage Level and the Max Payout Level the payment amount of your coverage increases as there is less rainfall. You can also enter the number of acres and select Storm Protection to protect against large storms counting too much against your total rainfall value.

For example, if you enter 70%, and the rainfall amount for the selected location and dates is less than 70%, your coverage will payout incrementally based on how far below 70% the rainfall amount is. The Max Payout Amount is independent of the percent of normal entered in this field.

A heavy storm may bring significant rainfall, but due to runoff you do not always receive the full benefit of that storm. Select Storm Protection and your coverage will not count rainfall above two inches over any consecutive two-day period (see Help Guide for further details).
